Details

FitBit’s range of Charge fitness trackers is revving through the gears, adding more features that higher-priced models treat as luxury must-haves. Recent additions to the Charge 4 include a standalone GPS tracker, so you don’t need to take your phone out on those runs.

There’s also support for Spotify playlists (if you have a Spotify Premium account), a range of sleep tracking features to ensure you rest properly too. All the features show up on the bright screen, but the detail is reserved for your smartphone app that can show how active you have been over time.

The Storm Blue colour option is exclusive to Argos and looks great, it definitely won’t show up the abuse of any hefty workouts. It can measure your heart rate, steps taken, distance travelled, how fast you went and the number of calories consumed, all ideal for getting into shape or just staying on top of your health.

It comes with a two-year guarantee in case of problems, and in the package you’ll find a small and large strap to cater for wrist size, and charging cable. It isn’t quite as convenient as the Apple Watch magnetic charger, but does the job and takes only half-an-hour or so to charge up.

Summary

Comfortable and intuitive, the FitBit Charge 4 makes a great way to get healthy, encouraging you to stay in those fitness zones that offer the most benefit. While using the GPS does limit how far you go (to about half-a-day) for most users, it does a great job as an exercise and sleep-tracking buddy.

Note that the FitBit pay feature is limited to a few UK banks at the time of writing -- official list here -- but expect that number to grow.

Pros

  • Small and light
  • 7-day battery life makes the Apple Watch look silly

Con

  • On rare occasions, the screen doesn’t wake
  • GPS races through the battery life
